Fabian New Year Conference

The Fabian New Year Conference 2010 kicked off on Saturday 16th January with a keynote speech from the Prime Minister, Gordon Brown, in front of more than 700 delegates.

At the event, sponsored by TU Fund Managers for the second year running, Gordon Brown set out to reassure "middle class families" that Labour is their party in a campaigning speech. The prime minister said Labour would create "more middle class jobs than ever before" and the party represents the "mainstream majority". One political reporter said the subject of the speech was quite "brazen".

"What's very clear is that Gordon Brown has acknowledged that if Labour have any chance of securing a fourth term in office it's got to go beyond the hardcore and it has to appeal to non-traditional Labour voters", the correspondent continued.

The dialogue and discussion following his speech spilled out into the Exhibition area during the interval where we were delighted to meet Fabian members, young and old, introduce them to our range of investments and encourage them to consider using their ISA allowances before the end of the tax year.
